In 2021, Ronin was a new Ethereum sidechain with a single game aboard: Axie Infinity. Over the following years, Ronin emerged as THE gaming chain, onboarding millions of players and teams through more games like Pixels, Cambria, Angry Dynomites, and many others.
Today, we’re plugging our engine into the mothership: Ethereum. Here’s what that means:
Ronin is now a Layer 2 on Ethereum
Ronin used to be an island, handling everything from onchain security to transaction processing itself. Now, Ethereum is part of Ronin’s engine. That means Ronin will continue to work the same as before, and you’ll experience Ethereum’s stronger security and faster transactions. Thank you to our allies at Optimism for powering this evolution and welcoming Ronin into the OP Stack ecosystem.
The migration was technically complex and required bespoke tooling. This was led by Conduit, taking us from a sovereign L1 to an OP Stack chain, the largest state migration in history. In addition, Conduit preserved RON as the gas token with minimal downtime.

Why this is good for Ronin: Lower Inflation, Higher Treasury Revenue
This migration is about more than joining the Ethereum movement. It’s also a chance to upgrade RON’s tokenomics and flatten RON inflation. For example, Ronin was on track to emit a whopping 45M RON/year in rewards as of yesterday. Today, we flattened that number to 5M/year. This represents a 9x reduction in emissions, which is the lowest rate of emissions in Ronin’s history. That also means it will be harder than ever to get RON.
These rewards will go to builders who contribute to Ronin’s ecosystem. The more you build, the more you earn. This is a fundamental change in the way token emissions work, and will usher in a new merit-based incentive structure for our network.
Note: The Ronin Ecosystem team selected specific metrics for Proof of Distribution reward calculations. Why? Because those metrics correlated strongest with the market cap of RON.

Bolstering the Ronin Treasury’s Revenue Streams
The Ronin Treasury holds millions of RON and other tokens. It also belongs to RON holders. However, the link between onchain activity and treasury value hasn’t been strong enough. Starting today, you’ll see more revenue streams than ever flowing into the Ronin Treasury.
The new streams:
• The remaining 90M RON set aside for staking
• Net sequencer profits including total gas revenue minus Blob fees and expenses
• 1.25% of all Ronin Marketplace fees (increased by 2.5x from 0.5% to 1.25%)

Why Ronin’s homecoming is good for Ethereum
Earlier this year, the Ethereum Foundation shared a vision for Layer 2 chains:
“Previously: the primary objective of L2s was to scale Ethereum… Today: the primary objective of L2s is to provide differentiated features, services, customizations, go-to-market strategies, and zones of control, while also offering extra scale. Reminder for Builders: Register for Rewards NOW
Ronin’s Proof of Distribution system has started calculating builder rewards. If you’ve already registered, we’ll start tracking your contributions at 14:00 GMT +7 on May 13th. Reward periods will happen in seasons, with each season lasting about 1 month. If you haven’t registered yet, you’re leaving potential rewards on the table.
For example, Craft World was one of the first builders to register, and our internal estimates indicate they may earn as much as 40,000 RON per month from a total reward pool of 410,000 RON per month. How many rewards will your project or game take home?

FAQ
Q: I was staking my RON before the migration. What’s going to happen to it?
A: Check your wallet! It should have been auto-deposited to your address already.
Q: When will there be downtime?
A: Downtime is complete! Ronin is up and running on Ethereum.
Q: After migration, what happens to the validators?
A: There is no action required for any validators. Standard Validators will receive their 250K+ RON in their wallets after the migration. Governing Validators will need to participate in a vote to renounce their roles post-migration. Stay tuned for more details.
Q: If Ronin is migrating to Ethereum, will the network still be called Ronin?
A: Yes. Ronin will work as usual, although transaction speeds will be faster and security will be even stronger. Ethereum is now underpinning Ronin.
Q: Which token will Ronin use for gas? Will it be ETH?
A: Ronin will continue to use RON for gas.
Q: How does this affect liquidity pools on Katana?
A: The migration will not affect liquidity pools on Katana.
Q: Will there be any new staking mechanism as replacement when we migrate to Ethereum?
A: There’s currently no way to stake your RON and earn rewards. All rewards will flow directly to builders.
Q: After the migration, what will happen to other tokens like AXS, SLP, PIXEL, etc?
A: There will be no change to these tokens, and no action required from holders of these tokens.
Q: What should I do with the RON I’m holding on exchanges?
A: Each exchange will have its own policy. However, there is no action required for most users. If you have wRON on Coinbase, you’ll need to bridge it from Ronin to Ethereum after the migration.
