The RNS Public Sale is hours away! Gamers and Web3 users around the world will soon be able to secure their .ron names for the first time ever. In this article, you’ll find important details around their tiered pricing model and the Special Collection & High-Value Name auction. We’ve also linked some support articles that will help you make the most of your RNS. Let’s jump in!
How the RNS Tier System Works
We designed a three-tier system to price RNS names. This helps get names into the right hands – and keep them there! We’ve reserved Protected names for brands and businesses to reduce impersonation and squatting. Regular names follow the character length for the tier system while auctioned names follow a tiered system based on their Tier Value. Here’s the formula to calculate the Tier Value of an auctioned RNS name:
Tier Value for Auctioned Names = (0.5 x Domain Price) + Renewal Fee
Here’s how we determine each tier:
Tier 1 RNS Names
Tier 1 RNS Names are .ron names with a Tier Value above $200USD. In general, this encompasses any 3-character name, names belonging to special collections, and auctioned names with a Tier Value above $200USD. However, certain creator and community member names may have also received Tier 1 designation.
Tier 2 RNS Names
Tier 2 RNS Names are .ron names with a Tier Value between $50USD and $200USD according to the calculation above. This includes any 4-character regular names, and auctioned names with a tier value between $50USD and $200USD acquired via auction.
Tier 3 RNS Names
Tier 3 RNS Names are .ron names that are neither Tier 1 or Tier 2. In general, this would include names with 5 characters or more that do not belong to select brands or creators. These auctioned names would have a Tier Value below $50USD.
How a Special Collection RNS Name's Tier can Change after the Auction
A special collection RNS name’s domain price will increase if the name is later sold at a higher price, or if the name has a valid offer at a higher price on Mavis Market. In this case, the name might change tiers. For example, a Tier 3 RNS name that is sold for $100 would become a Tier 2 RNS Name.
If the special collection RNS name has not received any higher offers for three consecutive months, its domain price will decrease by 5%. In this case, the name might change tiers in the opposite direction. For example, a Tier 2 name whose Tier Value dropped below $50 due to the 5% price decrease would become a Tier 3 name.
Note that tiers remain fixed for regular names that are not part of special collections.

Auction Starting Prices
We calculated the starting price of an auctioned domain in RON based on USD value to RON using the moving average price from the last 7 days. Names with more than five characters start around 6.7 RON, four-character names start around 134.1 RON, and three-character names start around 402.3 RON.
How to Bid
You can bid at any price but there’s a minimum mark-up of 10% to place a higher bid if someone has already placed a bid. You need to have a sufficient amount of RON to make a bid.
Note: the RNS names at the auction come with a free, complimentary first year. However, winners will need to pay the annual fee and reservation fee starting after the first year of owning the RNS name.
