Ronin is getting an upgrade next week. The Karst upgrade will introduce Ethereum’s Fusaka hard fork to Ronin, bringing more efficiency and enabling a more streamlined approach to future upgrades. Here’s what’s happening:

What Is the Karst Upgrade?

The Karst Upgrade brings Ronin in line with Ethereum’s Fusaka hard fork, introducing the latest execution-layer improvements and a new system for managing Ronin’s core contracts.

Introduces the L2 Contract Manager: This makes it possible to upgrade Ronin’s core contracts in a single block, rather than relying on Ethereum multisig transactions or client-level changes

Upgrades Ronin’s L1 contracts to op-contracts/v7.0.0: This ensures Ronin’s bridge and rollup mechanics adhere to the newest and most secure standards provided by Optimism developers

For Ronin users, the upgrade will be seamless. No action is required and there will be no downtime. Saigon Testnet has also been running Karst since September 2, which has given builders and node operators time to test ahead of this mainnet activation.

What Changes for Builders

Most applications on Ronin will continue to work as usual. However, Karst introduces a few changes that builders should check before the upgrade goes live.

New ~16.8M gas cap starts October 7th

Once the Karst upgrade is complete, transactions will be capped at approximately 16.8 million gas. This may affect large batch operations, heavy multicalls, or unusually large contract deployments. Ethereum deposit transactions are exempt from this limit.

Note for users: This should not have any impact on your daily transactions. For example, a typical DEX swap may cost 10,000 gas, which is well-below the 16.8M limit.

Updated Costs for Cryptographic Operations

P256VERIFY will become roughly twice as expensive, which may affect applications using passkeys or WebAuthn-style authentication. MODEXP will also become more expensive, with a new 1024-byte input limit.

A Lower Pairing Limit

bn256Pairing will accept up to 300 pairs per call, down from 427. This is relevant for applications using zero-knowledge proof verification or BLS signature aggregation. Karst also introduces the new CLZ opcode. This is an additive change, but developers should update any tooling that parses bytecode or estimates gas.

Saigon has been running Karst since September 2. Builders can test their applications against the upgraded network before mainnet activation.

What Node Operators Need to Do

If you’re running a Ronin or Saigon node, you’ll need to update your node before Karst goes live.

Upgrade op-node

For the Karst override, use:

• Ronin: --override.karst=1791388801

• Saigon: --override.karst=1788364801

Upgrade op-reth

Upgrade to v2.2.3. This release also includes an upstream bug fix.

Still running op-geth?

You’ll need to migrate to op-reth before Karst. op-geth has reached the end of support and will no longer work after Karst activates. The external node setup guide has been updated with the new requirements. A recent op-reth snapshot is also available if you need one.

IMPORTANT: Nodes that aren’t upgraded before Karst activates will stop following the chain.

A new era for Ronin has begun.

Markets are heating up. Proof of Distribution is improving in real-time. Soon, RGP-1 will usher in even more new possibilities for our ecosystem.

Ronin Governance will give RON holders a stronger voice in the future of our ecosystem. You’ll be able to engage in proposal crafting, cast votes based on RON holdings, and see how the ecosystem transforms as a result. Here’s what’s happening:

A new role for RON holders

Governance gives YOU the power to participate in shaping Ronin. Vote on proposals based on how much RON you hold. 1 RON = 1 Vote. A supermajority of 66% is necessary for a proposal to pass.

The Ronin Ecosystem team has built a simple four-step process to introduce our first proposal, which focuses on improving liquidity on Ronin via deployment of Ronin Treasury funds.

RGP-1: Putting the Treasury to Work

RGP-1 is a proposal to deploy treasury assets as liquidity for RON/WETH and RON/USDC on Katana. If passed, RON markets would deepen, price discovery would become easier, and slippage would decrease. More liquidity, more efficiency. This would also generate more trading fees for the treasury as activity grows.

Note: Existing treasury reserves would fund RGP-1, and any future top-ups generated through the ecosystem’s liquidity would follow parameters approved through governance.

Get more $RON

Looking Ahead: Funding the Ronin Treasury

Earlier this year, the Ronin Ecosystem team announced that 90M RON in staking rewards would flow back into the ecosystem. That’s why the Ronin Ecosystem team will transfer a first tranche of 16,234,252 RON to the treasury in October. The remaining transfers will follow the schedule below, which will follow a fixed quarterly distribution that tapers until January 2031.

The October transfer combines tranches from April, July, and October while subtracting the ~ 2,456,748 RON paid out in PoD rewards. In total, 85,234,252 RON will flow from former staking rewards to the Ronin Treasury.

Note: Some of the 90M RON will flow to Proof of Distribution rewards without ending up in the treasury. See the chart above for exact figures.

New Update: RON Conviction<> Proof of Distribution

RON Conviction is a new Builder Score multiplier we’re applying to Proof of Distribution rewards. Think of it like a multiplier that rewards builders with strong communities while dampening rewards for builders with low-conviction communities.

More RON conviction → Higher RON Conviction multiplier → More PoD Rewards

Low RON conviction → Lower RON Conviction multiplier → Fewer PoD Rewards

Imagine Ronke has a Builder Score of 700 and a RON Conviction multiplier of 1.1. In the past, their final Builder Score would be 700. Starting today, it would be 770 because 700 x 1.1 = 770.

This increases Ronke’s total RON rewards from PoD.

Or, think of a team with a Builder Score of 300 but a RON Conviction multiplier of 0.8. In the past, their final Builder Score would be 300. Starting today, it would be 240 because 300 x 0.8 = 240.

This decreases their total RON rewards from POD.

This is the formula we’ll use for now:

1 + net conviction / (gross conviction + K)

• Net: RON or wRON bought or sold by builder’s users (trailing 30 days)

• Gross: Total RON or wRON traded

• K: Median trading volume across ALL active builders

Note: Why use the median trading volume (K) as a variable? Because RON Conviction should take into account conviction relative to the entire market. If one person acquires 1 RON and swaps 0 RON, that does not indicate high conviction. However, if they acquire 1,000,000 RON and swap 0 RON, that indicates very strong conviction. Without K, both of those actions would have the same weight because the ratio would be 1:0.

What is Honor Score?

The Ronin Ecosystem team is also developing Honor Score, which is a way to measure user contribution across the Ronin ecosystem. Think of it like this: Builder Score highlights builder reputation, Honor Score highlights user reputation. For example, users who make meaningful contributions to our ecosystem will get a higher Honor Score.

This will give builders better data about the users interacting with their products, which in turn helps them understand their communities, identify highly engaged users, and make better decisions around rewards, experiences, and ecosystem incentives.

We’ve already seen this work: The Ronin Ecosystem team used an early version of Honor Score to identify 1,000 Ronin users for the Yakkamon free mint, helping connect an ecosystem opportunity with users who were already contributing to Ronin.

Over time, Honor Score will unlock additional utility for users across the ecosystem. As new use cases are introduced, we’ll gradually reveal how your Honor Score can become a more meaningful part of your onchain identity and experience.

FAQ Part 1

Q1: Why is the treasury transfer taking roughly five years?

The schedule follows Ronin’s whitepaper, tokenomics, and vesting schedule, which include RON that has yet to be unlocked.

The good news is that once this RON is unlocked, it will go directly to the treasury. This means the treasury will continue receiving RON as the remaining tokens are released according to the established schedule.

Q2: If 1 RON = 1 Vote, what’s stopping someone from buying a lot of RON and forcing or blocking proposals?

You’ll only be able to vote on proposals that come out of forum discussions and a temperature check by the Ronin Ecosystem team. This removes the risk of reckless proposals getting passed. Once voting begins, the supermajority requirement also increases the amount of RON required to single-handedly influence a vote. After internal analysis, the Ecosystem Team has identified that it’s unlikely that there are meaningful takeover risks as a result. If issues do arise, the governance framework can also be adjusted.

FAQ Part 2

Q3: Does this proposal only affect $RON? How are we going to provide liquidity if we've already used our WETH/USDC on RON buybacks in the past?

The Treasury still receives ongoing WETH/USDC inflow, and currently holds approximately $100k in WETH/USDC. That's what would fund this proposal's liquidity.

Q4: Will this only use single-sided liquidity?

No. This uses a standard two-sided liquidity pool.

Q5: Why was this decided for the Treasury without any community discussion first?

This is a proposal, not a decision. If the governance vote rejects it, it won't happen. That's why it's being put to a vote rather than implementing it directly.

Q6: As an individual who holds RON, why should I care about voting?

Voting gives you real influence over the ecosystem. This is the first proposal. RGP-1 activates treasury funds, and a future proposal could modify PoD or Honor Score mechanics, which directly affects how you earn rewards. Your vote shapes decisions for the ecosystem, it's not just treasury management.

Q7: Using the treasury to deepen liquidity pools reduces the fees earned by people and groups already providing liquidity. Why should I care whether the treasury earns fees from liquidity?

If you don't want the treasury earning fees this way, that's what the vote is for, vote against the proposal. If it passes, the fees that the treasury earns go back into the ecosystem productively, rather than treasury funds sitting idle. You decide.

Q8: Why not include $RON holdings in the Honor Score calculation?

We're still working through this one. Ronin doesn't have RON staking, so there's no direct 1:1 comparison. How RON holdings might factor into your score, if at all, is an open question we think deserves broader discussion internally and with the community before we commit to an answer.

Proof of Distribution (PoD) is a new system with a clear North Star: Aligning builders’ efforts with ecosystem growth. The more builders contribute to Ronin, the more rewards they can earn via PoD. What we’ve learned

Axie Infinity took the crown with over 97K RON in rewards, while Gas Infinity and Craft World earned about ⅓ of that. Ragnarok and Pixels also showed up strong. However, what was most interesting was how the community embraced PoD beyond its original purpose.

Ronin community members began to use the PoD leaderboard as a discovery tool for new games. Why is Craft World doing so well? How can I play Ragnarok for the first time? Proof of Distribution became a tool for players and builders to keep an eye on what everyone is excited about.

As a result, the Ronin ecosystem team has started exploring new ways to make that experience even better. Think richer project pages, improved discovery, community-driven features, and more.

The Road Ahead

Every incentive system gets stress-tested. As expected, we saw attempts to game PoD through Sybil activity and other forms of artificial engagement. That’s part of building transparent, permissionless systems. The Ronin Ecosystem Team responded fast and made regular updates to the system, and today the PoD leaderboard reflects a more accurate picture of the projects delivering value today.

Part 2: Honor Scores and Governance are coming soon

Proof of Distribution aligned incentives for builders. What about users? This is where Honor comes in.

Every transaction, every interaction, and every contribution tells a story about how someone participates in the Ronin ecosystem. Honor Score will bring those signals together into a unified reputation layer designed to recognize meaningful, long term participation.

The objective is simple: recognize and reward the users who help Ronin grow.

Measuring meaningful contribution

Honor Score will combine a variety of onchain signals to estimate each user’s contribution to the network. It will consider factors such as:

• Onchain activity across Ronin

• Applications used

• Asset holdings

• Wallet age and retention

• Network position and ecosystem participation

Rather than measuring activity alone, Honor Score aims to measure each user’s contribution to the long term value of the Ronin ecosystem.

As the system evolves, Honor Score will also strengthen Proof of Distribution by replacing raw user counts with reputation weighted participation, making ecosystem incentives naturally more resistant to Sybil attacks and reward farming.

Closing the reward loop

More Honor means more opportunities. Every season, users will earn points based on their Honor Score, which will unlock new benefits and rewards, creating a direct incentive to participate in the ecosystem. The stronger a user’s reputation, the greater the opportunities they’ll unlock.

Part 3: Ronin Treasury is Evolving

With Governance and the Honor Score beginning to take shape, the Ronin Treasury is finally ready to move beyond simply accumulating assets and start playing an active role in the ecosystem’s growth.

Rather than viewing it as a reserve of tokens, it’s better to think of the Ronin Treasury as a fund with exposure to the entire Ronin ecosystem. As new games launch, new protocols emerge, and new assets are introduced, the treasury has the opportunity to participate in the long term growth of everything being built on Ronin.

That means the treasury allows Ronin to invest in the success of its own ecosystem.

The treasury will soon receive an additional 90 million RON from the former staking reward allocation, increasing its holdings to over 100 million RON, or more than 10% of the total RON supply.

From reserve to resource

With Governance, the community will gradually gain a voice in how treasury resources are allocated. With Honor Score, long term contributors will be able to redeem points for treasury assets at a discount.

For the first time, the treasury will become an active participant in Ronin’s growth strategy, supporting builders, rewarding users, and creating new opportunities across the ecosystem.

What #2 on the PoD leaderboard really means

Ronin’s Proof-of-Distribution program rewards the projects that genuinely put the chain to work: real on-chain activity, real growth, real usage of the wider ecosystem. A high PoD ranking isn’t a vanity number; it’s a measure of how many people are actually doing things on-chain because of your game.

That’s why we’re proud to sit at #2 of 51, and prouder still of how we got there. Not with a small circle of crypto power users, but the opposite way: a large and fast-growing base of everyday players. Tens of thousands are active every month, transacting on Ronin and trading on Katana as a normal part of play.

Here’s the part that matters: most of those players didn’t come for crypto. They came for the game. On day one, a new player doesn’t have to think about wallets, tokens, or gas at all. From there, we bring them on-chain gradually, as the game gives them reasons to. The point was never to hide the blockchain. It’s to make it easy enough that anyone can use it, and to ease people in instead of asking them to figure it all out up front.

Because for most people, web3’s on-ramp is a series of walls: a wallet to create, a seed phrase to back up, a gas token to buy before you can move, a stream of confirmation pop-ups. Each wall is a place where a normal player quits. We took them down one at a time. Here’s how.

Meet your VOYA ID: a wallet created for you, not by you

When someone opens Craft World, they don’t go hunting for a wallet. They can start playing right away as a guest, then link an email or social login to secure the account. Behind the scenes, we set up their VOYA ID: a smart wallet on Ronin, tied to that login, that doubles as their account and on-chain identity.

• No seed phrase to write down. Players never have to back up twelve words to get started. Access is built on the sign-in methods they already trust, and we handle the wallet behind it.

• A real Ronin address. A VOYA ID isn’t a database entry pretending to be a wallet. It’s a genuine smart wallet on Ronin, the same kind of on-chain account the rest of the ecosystem uses.

• Room to grow. Players who want to bring their own wallet, like Ronin Wallet, can link one whenever they’re ready.

The result is that the “set up a wallet” step, one of the biggest drop-off points in web3 games, basically disappears.

We pay the gas, so players don’t have to

Even with a VOYA ID in hand, most newcomers hit the next wall: you need the network’s gas token before you can make a single move. We took that one down for everyday play, too.

• Gas is sponsored. For the on-chain actions in normal gameplay, we cover the network fee on the player’s behalf. They don’t need to acquire RON just to play.

• No confirmation fatigue. Key on-chain actions like daily check-ins, claims, and Exchange trades don’t bury the player under transaction pop-ups.

• It still feels like a game. Tap, play, progress. The chain settles the on-chain parts underneath.

For the player, the experience feels like a polished web2 game. Under the hood, the actions that matter on-chain are settling as real transactions on Ronin.

A player-owned economy, powered by Katana

This is the part we’re proudest of. Craft World runs a player-owned economy: the resources players gather, craft, and trade (EARTH, WATER, COIN, and the rest) are backed by real tokens on Ronin, with real value players can trade on the open market. Inside the game they feel like a normal inventory, and when a player trades, those tokens move on-chain.

And when players want to trade them, our in-game Exchange settles the swap on Katana:

• Real liquidity, real swaps. A trade in our Exchange is routed through Katana’s on-chain liquidity. Players are trading against the same DEX infrastructure the broader Ronin ecosystem uses.

• Priced from the live market. Quotes come straight from Katana’s on-chain liquidity at the moment of the trade, not a number we made up.

• Wrapped in a simple UI. The player picks two resources, enters an amount, and confirms. Token approvals, routing, slippage protection, and settlement all happen automatically.

Players use it heavily. Our system facilitates around 180,000 trades a month: real swaps, on real liquidity, at real scale, on Ronin.

In other words: when our players use the Exchange, they’re trading on a real decentralized exchange, without needing the hardware wallet or DeFi know-how it used to take. It’s not that the blockchain is hidden; it’s that using it finally feels easy.

Why it shows up on the leaderboard

Put these pieces together (automatic wallet, sponsored gas, an economy that settles on Katana) and the usual web3 drop-off points disappear. Players who would have quit at “create a wallet” or “go buy some RON” simply keep playing. That’s the whole flywheel behind our PoD ranking:

• The funnel stays full. The barrier isn’t “do you understand crypto?” It’s “do you want to play?” That’s how ~1,500 new installs a day compound into a ~60,000-strong monthly player base.

• Every active player is on-chain. They each have a VOYA ID (a real Ronin smart wallet), and their trades settle on Katana, including the many who started out brand new to web3.

• Growth and on-chain activity become the same thing. A large, growing, genuinely a

  ctive player base is exactly what PoD measures. It’s how a game built to ease players into web3, rather than gate them behind it, ends up #2 on a blockchain leaderboard.

And the door keeps opening wider: as players get comfortable, they can link their own wallet like Ronin Wallet and step further into the ecosystem at their own pace.

Final thoughts

We think this is how the next wave of players comes on-chain: not by asking them to learn blockchain first, but by giving them a great game and easing them into the on-chain world as they go. Ronin and Katana gave us the foundation to make that real.

A: We have already deployed our primary announcements across owned media channels. A coordinated wave of direct email reminders and push notifications will be sent directly to affected users throughout the 90 days to ensure everyone gets the message.

Why this is good for Ronin: Lower Inflation, Higher Treasury Revenue

This migration is about more than joining the Ethereum movement. It’s also a chance to upgrade RON’s tokenomics and flatten RON inflation. For example, Ronin was on track to emit a whopping 45M RON/year in rewards as of yesterday. Today, we flattened that number to 5M/year. This represents a 9x reduction in emissions, which is the lowest rate of emissions in Ronin’s history. That also means it will be harder than ever to get RON.

Ronin’s Proof of Distribution system has started calculating builder rewards. If you’ve already registered, we’ll start tracking your contributions at 14:00 GMT +7 on May 13th. A: Downtime is complete! Ronin is up and running on Ethereum.

Q: After migration, what happens to the validators?
A: There is no action required for any validators. Standard Validators will receive their 250K+ RON in their wallets after the migration. Governing Validators will need to participate in a vote to renounce their roles post-migration. Stay tuned for more details.

Q: If Ronin is migrating to Ethereum, will the network still be called Ronin?
A: Yes. Ronin will work as usual, although transaction speeds will be faster and security will be even stronger. Ethereum is now underpinning Ronin.

Q: Which token will Ronin use for gas? Will it be ETH?
A: Ronin will continue to use RON for gas.

Q: How does this affect liquidity pools on Katana?
A: The migration will not affect liquidity pools on Katana.

How to register for Proof of Distribution

Anyone who has contributed to Ronin’s growth will soon be able to earn automated RON rewards. Proof of distribution is a merit-based reward system that funnels RON to top builders based on Builder Scores. Registration is open, and here’s what you need to do:

Flattening RON Inflation

RON’s current inflation rate is over 20%. After this upgrade, it will be less than 1%. That means 20x fewer tokens will enter circulation via reward emissions, and RON’s new inflation rate will be lower than USD. It will be harder than ever to get RON.

More Ronin Treasury Inflows

The Ronin Treasury holds millions of RON and other tokens. After Ronin’s Homecoming, you’ll start to see new inflows from:

• The remaining 90M RON set aside for staking
• Net sequencer profits including total gas revenue minus Blob fees and expenses
• 1.25% of all Ronin Marketplace fees (increased by 2.5x from 0.5% to 1.25%)

Sky Mavis will review the figures above on a monthly basis. This means they may change over time. In addition, certain volume processors will not receive Proof of Distribution rewards. For example, while Ronin Market may score high according to the above metrics, its network activity is driven by builders on Ronin. The purpose of Proof of Distribution is to reward those builders rather than Ronin Market itself.

Q: How will the migration affect the games I play?

A: On May 12th, there will be ~10 hours of downtime where you won’t be able to complete any onchain actions. Games may be paused during this time. After the migration is complete, everything will go back to normal.

Q: What will happen to my staked RON?

A: We encourage you to unstake your RON before the May 12th migration date. However, if your RON remains staked on May 12th, it will be automatically unstaked for you after the migration is complete.

How the Mechanics & Point Systems Work

The War Of Emperium uses a Point Accumulation System where guilds compete to capture Castles within Cities. Point distribution happens at the end of each day. For example, imagine there’s a point-based battle in the City of Prontera starting Sunday. Each Castle would have its own point value for that week, which would look like this:

• Castle A: 1.0 Point

• Castle B: 0.8 Points

• Castle C: 0.7 Points

• Castle D: 0.6 Points

• Castle E: 0.5 Points

Castle A is the highest-value Castle, and will probably see the most competition for its capture. Castle E is the lower-value Castle, and will probably see the least competition for its capture. Every war day, guilds have a chance to compete for these points. On the next war day, the battle will switch to a new City and Castle values will reset.

How Contest Rewards Work

HappyMoki.ron enters a $3 contest and pays the 300 Gem entry fee. He receives 150 mXP. He goes on to win $9 (900 Gems), which gives him an additional 600 mXP. HappyMoki.ron takes home 750 mXP and $9 in total!

There are a few contest formats you can enter:

• Open Contests: No restrictions on card rarity. Often capped at 100 participants
• One-Of-Each Contests: Participants must submit one Champion of each rarity in their lineup
• Star Cap: Lineups must stay under a total Star Rating limit

Note: There are two reward structures in each contest format. The Top 20% will take home top-heavy rewards based on leaderboard placement, while everyone in the Top 50% will share a fixed reward amount.

How to earn rewards as a collector

Every Grand Arena card you collect grants mXP, and the amount earned varies by rarity. Higher-tier cards grant more mXP. There are two ways to acquire cards: Visit the Grand Arena Shop to buy and open packs, or buy individual cards on Ronin Market.

The more cards you collect, the more mXP you’ll earn, and the more lineup options you’ll have in Grand Arena. Your payout = Prize pool total x (your mXP total/sum of total qualified mXP from other players)

Pro-tip: Card rarity also applies a multiplier to its Champion Moki performance in contests: Basic 1.0x, Rare 1.25x, Epic 1.5x, Legendary 1.75x. For example, Banana Mogger with Basic rarity gets no multiplier, but a Legendary Banana Mogger would get a 1.75x multiplier. Higher-rarity, higher rewards.

Why You Should Own a Moki

Moki owners can earn extra mXP by training their Mokis during Grand Arena Season 1. Moki trains → Moki’s stats improve → Moki places on one of two Leaderboards → Owner gets mXP and token rewards if their Champion Moki places. That means every Moki is eligible to earn rewards by leveling-up through training! Champion Mokis also earn extra rewards via royalties and card pack sales. Here’s how training works:

• Training Time: Earn 1 mXP per hour trained, up to 168 mXP per week per Moki.

• Snacks (Training Boosts): Using Lucky Mochi, Power Yaki, or Energy Bun grants 20, 35, and 70 mXP respectively, counted retroactively including preseason use.

• Locked Mokis: Receive 50 mXP per week for each locked Moki. Weekly snapshots for locked Mokis begin with Season 1.
